We’ve now officially exchanged contracts for the sale of our house. However… not on the purchase. I had to make a decision earlier to ensure that our sale went through regardless of any problems arising with the purchase of our new house. It seems that our seller’s solicitors are having resourcing issues today and can’t mobilise someone for a 10 minute contract exchange telephone call. Anyway, should our purchase not go through today or before our sale completion date of next Friday then we’ll be officially homeless.. nice! .. so Ken and Sylvia… are you ready???
I’ll post more later as I get more news – a lot can happen in these final few hours as I’m learning.
Half way there…

September 18th, 2008 No Comments »We haven’t had any confirmation that our buyers have signed yet, but we presume they did this afternoon as neither our estate agent or solicitor has heared anything at all. Fingers crossed that all is well and we can exchange contracts tomorrow morning.
We had a bit of a surprise earlier when we discovered that the chain was longer than we’d previously been advised and further up the chain they were asking for a later completion date…argh! Luckily within the hour that had been rectified and we were back to the original target. As Vicky put it earlier, another restless night waiting.
Nearly there
September 17th, 2008 1 Comment »Our solicitor phoned earlier to let me know that our buyers will hopefully be signing their contract at around 3:30 tomorrow afternoon… once that is done the entire chain will be in a position to exchange contracts and Operation Red Dragon can continue at full speed. Providing we exchange this week, our moving date is a week Friday (see the countdown in the column to the right…). I went a bit mental at the weekend packing stuff up. When I get home this weekend I’ll need to unpack my important documents folder containing all our insurance policies and various banks details and things, we’ll have a lot of things to cancel, move, advise of new addresses blah blah blah….. but for now, the clock counts down for the next few tense hours while we keep our fingers crossed that all will go well. Come on time, hurry up.

August 21st, 2008 No Comments »Welsh… it’s all bloomin’ foreign to me. Having got through pages 1-9 of Usborne’s “Welsh for beginners” I am now thoroughly confused as to how a language can get by without the letters J, K, Q, V, X, or Z in the alphabet whilst having at least three letters dedicated to covering my computer screen in spittle. I would like to say that I am now capable of advising people what my name is, asking them the reciprocating question, introducing other friends and greeting random Welsh strangers. But I can’t, the words went through my ears and never made contact with any brain matter along the way. I think I shall have to dedicate my car journeys to listening to the CD more, hopefully without being pulled over for driving with the book on the steering wheel (joke… mom, before you panic! I’d obviously put it on the seat next to me and keeping leaning over to read it). Further topics I shall look forward to include “Looking for things”, “Table Talk” and “Shopping”. The only problem I can see with my current learning methodology is it doesn’t include the most useful features of a language that everyone should have a basic understanding of: slang… I will need to cover that before Poppy starts learning Welsh at school so I can at least know when she’s added an expletive to whatever the translation of “that’s so unfair” is. The worst I can manage at the moment is calling someone a chimney.
In house news, I’ve just found out that our mortgage has been approved… just need to hope our buyer gets one too.
Scalextric boxing up ceremony
August 17th, 2008 No Comments »Yesterday was the official packing away ceremony for my Scalextric track. I gave it a good couple of hours of ‘testing’ before putting it in to the box whilst also sorting out a couple of bin bags of junk. Hopefully there’ll be a better place to set it up in the new house (hint hint…).. or maybe I could leave it in the box and just put a telly on the lounge wall instead
And when I arrived back on Friday evening I was greeted by the long awaited ‘Sold’ sign on our front driveway.
