Yup, it has now been 12 months to the day since I started my new job here in South Wales.. it’s been one of the busiest and most hectic years in my life to date but I have to say so far I have no regrets, other than perhaps the lack of 2-for-1 indian takeaways around these parts. I’m now settling in to my new job and enjoying it, and living near the coast seems to be holding off my hayfever too (I’d say it’s around 50% as bad as it usually is this time of year). The new house is a lot easier to maintain than the old one was, and despite being bigger it costs less to heat. I think Vicky enjoying being near her family too as she spends most days (specifically lunch times) at their house, and Poppy almost certainly likes her new school, pond, and play area.. and as of two weeks ago Vicky came home to the new house for the first time not pregnant. As for our new back garden… that is Margam Park and all the hills and mountains further behind there, I haven’t explored it all as much as I want to. There are several things I want to walk to and see close-up but haven’t got around to it yet – I suppose I have many years to go for walks but I must cross as least one of those off this summer. So in summary, this last year I have left my old job and got a new one, sold a house, moved to Wales, bought a new house, had another baby. Here’s to a quiet next 12 months…. fat chance of that!
Boxes boxes boxes
September 27th, 2008 No Comments »We made it. We got the keys to the new house yesterday afternoon and this morning the removal guys unloaded the lorry. So far the kitchen, dining room, and Poppy’s bedroom are sorted. The lounge is sort of unpacked too.. we need more furniture though before we can unpack our clothes. Our old bedroom had fitted wardrobes, and although the new house has a walk-in wardrobe it doesn’t have any drawers for clothes, just hanging space and a few shelves. Tomorrow is shopping day and we need tons of food and furniture.. and a new bed. We ordered a new fridge/freezer and dish washer last night so that will be with us on Tuesday hopefully. Most importantly the Sky man has been and connected us up…
Tonight will be our first night in the new house, I’m hoping I don’t get up in the night and urinate in the wardrobe instead of the bathroom by accident. Anyway, the next big unpacking job is the garage. At present you can barely move in it and with the nice weather at the moment it’s very important I get my barbecue out. Right…. it’s going to be quiet on the blog for a while due to lack of internet connectivity in the house. BT aren’t coming to connect us until Wednesday, then it’ll be a couple of weeks for the broadband order to go through.
The final day of packing
September 24th, 2008 1 Comment »Tomorrow is going to be hard work. By the end of the day we have to have packed up everything except for our overnight stuff so as Pickfords can load up their lorry Friday morning. So only two more sleeps left in Bedworth and then we’re off to Wales.
Exchange or bust
September 22nd, 2008 3 Comments »Finally we have exchanged! It was an eventful day which started with a phone call advising us that our seller’s solicitors were going bust which explains the reasons behind their strange excuses and delays on Friday. However after many nervous hours we finally got confirmation of the contract exchange at 5pm. So now we’re not going to be homeless on Friday after all. Lots to do, lots to organise, got to go, bye!
Oh yes, and stupid me forgot my laptop power supply so will have to conserve the half charged battery until I get (old) home on Wednesday evening. Still, it means I’ll have to use my PS3 more instead.
Well, we nearly did it
September 19th, 2008 No Comments »So, end of the day and we’ve not bought a house. Hopefully it’ll all go through on Monday but at least the all important sale is sealed in concrete pretty much.
