In France

I made it to France and am working on improving the Internet connection as we speak…. that’s a story for another blog post. In fact, details of the building, scenery, journey and food are unlikely to be appearing on this blog too because I know what my readers want. I know that the question on all my reader’s minds is “So Oli, what are French energy drinks like?”. Well dear readers I have purchased four cans and will describe them as I drink them.

French Energy Drinks

I started this morning with the can on the left, “Energy Drink” which I believe is U-Mart’s own brand. It tasted just like any other supermarket’s own brand energy drink so nothing special to report on that. Coming up later, Burn Intense Energy, Dark Dog, and Truc de Fou.

If however you would like to follow what is actually happening here in France then there are a few other blogs covering the same story:

Robbins Ramblings – Ken

Cooking Through 30 – Naomi

‘Allo ‘Allo – Roz

Coming up in future posts – how I rewired the Gites to extend the wireless network coverage.

A new video

It’s been four months since I last posted a video but I’ve finally got around to editing our Disneyland Paris holiday footage. If you would like to watch it, you’ll need to be a friend of mine on Facebook as that is where I now host my videos now, just check my profile page and you’ll see it there.

How it used to be done…

Finally we are back in Blighty. With the tunnel closed we had to take a slight detour and leave earlier than planned… here’s how it went:

1 ) We took a bus from our hotel to the train station in Disneyland
2 ) We caught a train to Lille.
3 ) We caught a train from Lille to the outskirts of Calais.
4 ) We caught another train to Calais Ville.
5 ) We took a coach from the train station to the ferry port.
6 ) We took the ferry as foot passengers across to Dover.
7 ) We took shuttle bus out of Dover port.
8 ) We were bundled on to another coach which took us to Ashford International station
9 ) And finally… a taxi got us back to Ashford Holiday Inn.

Phew… then this morning we drove back to Bedworth. I’m now in the process of packing up ready for the move even though we still didn’t exchange contracts last week. We are hoping for an exchange any day now otherwise it will push back our pencilled-in move date for the last weekend in September.

I’ve got plenty of video footage from our holiday but it’ll take a while to edit down. I even got some good footage of the crowds queing with us at various stages of our journey home, the television crews filming us, and the police trying to prevent the riots. It was quite an experience being part of such a big event like that and will just add to the memories of the holiday!

I not wait, daddy!

Roll on the weekend!!!! Saturday morning will mark the official start of our holiday, and probably the last holiday we have for a long time…. Vicky has been hyping up the excitement in Poppy by showing her DVDs (aka DDDDDs) of Mickey Mouse (Miskey Mowse) and Donald Duck (Donnie Duck). When I phoned home last night all I could hear in the background was Poppy in the bath shouting “I not wait, I not wait, Miskey Mowse, Donnie Duck, Princess”. We’re going to be catching the Eurostar on Sunday morning so the first part of our holiday consists of a road trip to Ashford… sick bags on standby please. We’ll be stopping over at Vicky’s sister’s house on the way to clean up I’m sure – on which subject special loving thanks (in a manly grr pat on the back hug type of way) goes out to her boyfriend who’s got me two bottles of Mountain Dew fresh from the US of A. He knows the way to my heart.

I was also informed that my Pakistani Loach attempted suicide last night. He managed to somehow knock his castle over on top of himself requiring emergency assistance from an air crew (ie, my mom).

Hopefully in my next update I’ll be able to tell you we’re about to / have exchanged contracts and have a moving date. Finger’s crossed.

And we're back!

So I’m now up and running hosted by that every delightfully budget Supanames. Only a few minor teething problems like the link to Facebook and my hit counter not working still remain but I’ll hopefully iron them out shortly.

My fish have been re-homed too. They are now living in their rented accomodation at my Mom and Dad’s house after the bucket based transferal that soaked Vicky’s feet.
