Spooky Fish

Today, Ong Bak, our Siamese Fighting Fish died. He hadn’t been looking too good for a few days now but he finally stopped moving of his own accord and started bobbing with the current instead. Now the really strange thing is that while I cleaned the tank out, I left the installation of Windows 7 (the new version of Windows to replace Vista) beta running on my laptop. Once I returned to my laptop I discovered that the default background Windows had installed for me was what appeared to be a Siamese Fighting Fish.. proof indeed that Microsoft have produced a psychic operating system and are fully in touch with the general public. Go on Google and Apple, beat that.windows7fishy

The above image is taken from a screenshot of the default Windows 7 wallpaper. Looks a lot like the fish that died, only less crusty and minging.

So last week I thought the shrimp in my fish tank had disappeared. When I inspected the filter earlier this evening to see why it was making a funny noise, I discovered that the shrimp had somehow made its way in to the filter compartment… which is a mystery in itself as it is pretty much sealed off from the tank. Anyway, as I attempted to pick it out of there it decided to flick around a lot… and vanished. Can’t find it anywhere.. could be on the floor, could have landed back in the tank. hmm.

Fish Tank Regeneration Project

So here goes the latest attempt at keeping a tidier fish tank. Last week I scraped all the blue gravel out and replaced it with gravel coloured gravel which should hide the dirt better. I also peeled (yes, peeled) off the algae from the glass and replaced the castle with a hollow log so as I could clean the muck off the castle. This week I put the castle back in and stuck a few plants in too. We also got a silver shark and a siamese fighting fish (blue fancy one in the photo)… I’m hoping to keep it clean this time!

Snail Genocide

I’ve decided to put some fish in my fish tank. It’s been a good few weeks since Rainbow Brite’s rotted corpse was removed and it’s pretty settled. Water tests show the balance is okay if a little hard (for Em’s peace of mind!).

Only problem is that since I put some nice real plants in there, a couple of snails came unknowingly free. They obviously found each other irresistible cuz now there’s bloomin’ thousands of them. Well, there was. A fair few of them are now floating after I got a magic potion from the pet store. My plan is to take Poppy to the pet store on Saturday to pick a few fish out… I’ll keep you posted.
