toyota_flowersEverybody, meet the newest member of our family. Toyota Celica VVTi Premium. I picked it up this afternoon from Bristol with the help of Ken (thanks!). Leather seats, climate control, rear spoiler, metallic silver, 17″ alloys, subwoofer in the boot, electric sunroof, 38k miles on the clock and 140bhp if I should ever choose to use it. The Toyota dealer even gave me a bunch of flowers “for your good lady wife” as a sweetener. The car has a few light scratches and a bit of a crumple on the driver’s side rear wheel arch, but I think they are subtle enough to live with. We’ve kept the Scenic (as you can see in the photo below) for practical purposes – I’ve given it to Vicky.. not that the Celica isn’t practical as I managed to get Poppy and her car seat in the back earlier quite easily. The gadget ban is still on for a few more months though because I had to borrow from the bank of wife in order to get the car now instead of around Christmas. This was partly for her own advantage so as she can use the Scenic during the school holidays and have a bit more freedom but I still have to replenish her savings before I can quench my gadget thirst again. Oooh, new series of The Gadget Show starts on Monday, that might help. Or perhaps not.

I've not found the one…

.. yet. I test drove a red one last night but it was sold shortly after I left the forecourt. It was overpriced anyway in my opinion and I’d only have been competing price wise against another couple if I’d gone in to bartering. On the other hand I have found my ideal number plate, a bargain at only £390 too:

number plate?

From old man to proper dad

We all went to Nottingham again today to pick up the new(ish) car. I’m now the proud owner of a Renault Scenic.

It’s quite nice to drive, but will take a bit of getting used to. It certainly lacks an edge of power but then again I have been used to a 2.0 V6 for the past two years. The driving position is quite high up and you get a good view, and although it is automatic I still attempted to change gears several times on the way home. We have all sorts of gadgets like auto headlights and auto wipers, plus a handy little drop-down mirror especially for keeping an eye on Poppy in the back. I’ve counted a total of 9 storage compartments so far.. and hidden at least one thing in each just to make sure they were used on principal.

In other news, Poppy is currently dressed up as a cat and handing out sweets to calling tricksters and advising them ‘meeeaaaoow’.

Got a car…

Thanks to both voters… I took your advice and got a different car.. In fact this one:

Scenic

I pick it up on Wednesday. It’s automatic, 1.6, black, Renault Scenic…

Shall I get a new car??

I’m debating whether or not to get a new car.. well, not a new new one, but a second hand one. My Rover 75, whilst in perfect working order and lovely to drive, is starting to become too familiar and I fancy a change. Ideally I’d like something low mileage, automatic so as Vicky can drive it, and lots of toys – I’m considering a 3 year old Renault Scenic (opinions welcome!).. What do you think?
