Holy Island, Batman…

This morning we took a small ferry from Lamlash to Holy Island. The island is owned by Tibetan Buddhists but they welcome visitors. Dad and I walked around the West side of the island before ascending to the summit (314 metres.. Just over 1000 feet so controversially qualifies as a mountain). The views from the top were amazing and the sun was hot- I’m a bit pink now. On our walk we only met one other person so it goes on record as a pretty remote and quiet mountain. The ferry journey back included a worried captain making a slight detour to circle a deflated balloon… just in case it turned out to be a stranded mammal or treasure chest or something. Today ended with a traditional Scottish offering of sweet & sour chicken balls plus crispy milk (?!?) for puds.

Goat Fell (but got up again)

We’ve done quite a lot since my last post. There’s been a tasty trip around a distillery, a wedding (photos and video to follow soon), a coastal walk, my parents arrival on the island, and finally today I walked up Goat Fell. From practically sea level, the summit is a mere 874 metres above – missing out on the Monroe status – and is a leisurely stroll of just over 3 miles each way. We had great views over Brodick Bay, but our final ascent was through thick mist.

And now for my review of Ginster’s new Mexican Chicken Cornish Pasties:
Medium spice, okay cold… Probably could have done with taking a microwave with me though… over all piefully substantial.

We’re in a lovely cottage looking out over Lamlash Bay towards Holy Island. The weather has been pretty warm and dry – we managed a walk around some waterfalls yesterday, and should be visiting a chocolate factory (mmm) later today. There’s a pool table and darts board in the games room as well…. Can it get any better? Yes.. The mother-in-law is here too :)
