Thanks to my family I am now the proud owner of the domain name shingler.co.uk.
Way back in December 2000 when I registered my first domain name, oshingler.co.uk, the domain I really wanted had already been taken about 6 months earlier. Ever since then I’ve silently wept every time I wrote down or read out my inferior sounding email address @oshingler.co.uk. No, I’m not Irish, but every time I mentioned “oshingler.co.uk” over the phone, I’d usually end up being referred to as Mr O’Shingler for the remainder of the call. On a number of occasions I would even receive email forwarded to me by the owner of shingler.co.uk which had been sent in error to the wrong domain. Neither of these issues haunt me any more, I now have the online geek equivalent of a personalised number plate.
You may notice that visiting www.shingler.co.uk redirects you to this blog. This is only temporary as I have plans for the domain in its own right – but that’s a story for another blog post. For now, the main reason I want this domain is for the improved email address. Note to readers: please update your address books to remove the superfluous ‘o’.
