<Insert Tarzan Noise>

On Saturday I went Ape, or more specifically to Go Ape in Margam Park. I’ve seen the ropes in the trees for a couple of years and been wanting to try it out so with the company of a few ex-colleagues I donned a harness and climbed. The course is fantastic and I wasn’t the least bit nervous about the heights. How I’d feel if I didn’t have the double safety lines I’m not sure, but not everyone was as confident as me – especially the guy who took almost 15 minutes to decide he was going to leap off the platform on the Tarzan Swing. Several zip-wires later and I found myself watching a football match – my first time ever watching an entire match on the TV…. I played solitaire on my phone for some of it, couldn’t hold my interest I’m afraid.

A New Host

I’ve decided to move the hosting of my domain olivershingler.co.uk to a new web host. Sadly, Supanames who I’d used for about 10 years were absorbed by 123-reg last year and although the prices and packages stayed the same, I lost some flexibility of their service. So, at the recommendation of my Father-in-law and his experiences hosting www.kensquiz.co.uk I opted for Vidahost. Vidahost also offer charity hosting services and very kindly upgraded my account to allow me to host www.bedworthdisabledswimming.co.uk at no extra charge. So far so good, the migration process was seamless and both (WordPress based) sites were up and running with minimal coding adjustments. Database import was easy too with Vidahost allowing me up to 20 separate MySQL databases instead of the previous limit of 1.

There is one minor issue however if you are just using Vidahost for domain registration without a hosting package then they do not currently provide a management control panel for adjusting the tag or DNS entries – you can make changes but in order to do so you need to open a support ticket and allow the support staff to make the changes manually on your behalf. It is due to this lack of control that I will be leaving my other domains on 123-reg for the moment so as I can see and make DNS adjustments myself whenever I want. So, Vidahost… if you read this then you know what to do!

If anyone is interested in buying a domain / hosting package or switching provider, then please use this link so I get commission:
