toyota_flowersEverybody, meet the newest member of our family. Toyota Celica VVTi Premium. I picked it up this afternoon from Bristol with the help of Ken (thanks!). Leather seats, climate control, rear spoiler, metallic silver, 17″ alloys, subwoofer in the boot, electric sunroof, 38k miles on the clock and 140bhp if I should ever choose to use it. The Toyota dealer even gave me a bunch of flowers “for your good lady wife” as a sweetener. The car has a few light scratches and a bit of a crumple on the driver’s side rear wheel arch, but I think they are subtle enough to live with. We’ve kept the Scenic (as you can see in the photo below) for practical purposes – I’ve given it to Vicky.. not that the Celica isn’t practical as I managed to get Poppy and her car seat in the back earlier quite easily. The gadget ban is still on for a few more months though because I had to borrow from the bank of wife in order to get the car now instead of around Christmas. This was partly for her own advantage so as she can use the Scenic during the school holidays and have a bit more freedom but I still have to replenish her savings before I can quench my gadget thirst again. Oooh, new series of The Gadget Show starts on Monday, that might help. Or perhaps not.

Clubcardalicious

I’ve been attempting to save up as many Tesco Clubcard points as possible this last quarter by keeping my eye on ‘loopholes’, using extra point vouchers and buying items with bonus points. I’ve managed to save up 7750 and the deadline has now passed. This is worth £77.50 in direct exchange at the store, or £310 in special deals.. So this is the target to hit for the next quarter then, the war is on.

A Gleeful Birthday

July 26th, 2009 1 Comment »

First up is a big thank you to everyone who has sent me a birthday email / text / card / present / facebook message… makes me feel all popular for a day! My birthday started with Poppy, Joseph and Vicky giving me my birthday present (smelly selection box… cuz I stink says Poppy). Then after an uneventful day at work Vicky took me out to The Glee Club in Cardiff. The comedians were all of a good standard, some better than others but they all made me laugh… the funniest comedian being the guy sitting next to us who became offended when picked on. Why would you go to a comedy show and get upset when picked on????? Being picked on and having the p!55 ripped out of you is the least you should expect. He was in his 40s and his girlfriend was 22 so the obvious old man / is that your daughter / viagra jokes were relentlessly thrown in his direction.

And the birthday gadget(s) this year is a nice pair of digital photo frames – one for work and one for home. I know I made my own a few years ago (a massive 14″ screen from a laptop) but it was so power hungry that I haven’t set it up again in this house. These new ones use less than 8 watts so I will be happier to leave it on all the time.

Yesterday Poppy insisted on having a proper birthday party for me, so once my brother, sister and Nick arrived we got the barbecue out and then played pin the tail on the donkey and pass-the-parcel.

Today we are going for an all-you-can-eat curry session at Le Raj so I am preparing by not eating breakfast. Wish me luck.

And lastly I need to mention the 6-layer birthday cake that Vicky spent all day Friday baking. Mmm, pictures say more than words can here:

I've not found the one…

.. yet. I test drove a red one last night but it was sold shortly after I left the forecourt. It was overpriced anyway in my opinion and I’d only have been competing price wise against another couple if I’d gone in to bartering. On the other hand I have found my ideal number plate, a bargain at only £390 too:

Just another week…

Yup, been a bit quiet on the blog this week, I actually pre-wrote the last two articles in advance and published them over a few days to try and cut down the gap a bit! I was doing coursework again.. finished it now and that’s the lot until the next two courses start in October…. and the final exam for the current course is scheduled too. I’ve also been on the hunt for my next toy, a car. I’m not allowed to sell the Scenic… something about it being useful and practical and don’t you dare. I’ve not found ‘the one’ just yet but I’ll let you know when I have.

This weekend has been fairly busy but relaxing all the same. Saturday morning I went to look at a potential car but I don’t think I’ll be getting that one. Then I built a shelf for Tinkerbell to live on in the garage. Up until yesterday she was living in her pyramid-shaped bed on top of my fake’n'decker work bench. It was getting a bit cluttered around there so I also put up another set of metal shelves, and a large bench area too. The bench area has Tink’s bed and dinner bowls on now so she’s fully off the floor. The plan is to put an electric heated blanket in there for her in the Winter (well, that is unless she some how remembers how to use the litter tray. I’m bleaching the garage floor once a week still).

Today I took Poppy to the cinema for her second visit. This time around we saw Ice Age 3… was ok but nothing special other than it kept her interest which is the important thing! That and a ‘Harry Potter’ cauldron of popcorn.
