Project Playhouse: Complete

May 31st, 2009 3 Comments »

Finally, all finished and bolted down. And yes, it has been tested by Poppy. I know it’s not her birthday yet but I challenge anyone to stop an almost-three-year-old from climbing up on to a new playhouse with a slide on especially when it’s in her own back garden. We’ve also managed to go shopping today too, all four of us and had something to eat out while we were there. We didn’t buy much while we were there, just some shoes for Poppy. I tried on some of those new Nike Free trainers that are supposed to feel almost like you are running barefoot. They feel pretty good but not barefoot by any means! Anyway, here’s a couple of photos from the playhouse test phase of the project:

    Hi,

I am a total stranger, but found your blog by googling the forest lodge wooden playhouse. I hope you don’t find this funny, but I am thinking of buying this for my 2.5 year old – and just wondered what you thought of it? Would you buy it again/pros&cons/has it weathered well/is your child bored of it now? Is there much maintenance on it?

    Many thanks,
    Sinead.

    Hi Sinead,

This is really quite spooky because I was planning on writing an update on the playhouse this weekend. I’ll send you the link when I’ve finished it because there will be new photos on there too.

Before then though I’ll give you a bit of a rundown on how the playhouse is going. It’s still standing and looking good. The wood has greyed which is to be expected, but still in perfect condition. The roof has also held up with no sign of mould or rot anywhere. I think this is because the wall slats have gaps between them which keeps it very well aired.

The green material door has faded quite a bit and does look a bit tatty, but that is the worst criticism I can think of for this playhouse, and I think that if it gets too tatty looking I’ll remove it altogether. I did have to purchase the slide extension because my daughter (age 4 now) was getting to the bottom of the slide and damaging her clothes, so I can recommend that as an essential extra purchase (you can get that direct from the manufacturer, TP Toys). My son (nearly 2) is able to climb up the steps and go down the slide on his own.

I’d definitely buy it again… hardwearing, the kids love it, and it’s what I wanted when I was 4.

I hope this helps your decision,
    Oli
