BBQ or not on Sunday?

June 15th, 2007 1 Comment »

So my parents are coming over on Sunday for Father’s Day frolics. Here’s the dilemma: It’s raining like ‘eck and I’m considering purchasing an arc just in case. Do I get stuff in for a barbecue and defy the traditional English weather by nuking stuff in the garage, or do I go for something posh like pomme-de-squishy avec les bangeurs tabley sit-down food?

Place your vote in the poll on the left to help me make up my mind. I need to buy stuff Sunday morning latest so hurry up and get your votes in!

It's that time of year again…

New PC: Done.
New Phone: Done.

My new PC is all built and up and running and stuff. For the geeks out there reading this… i.e., me, here’s the lowdown of the specifications:
- Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz (E6600)
- Asus P5B Motherboard
- Asus Nvidia 7600GS 512MB PCI-E Graphics Card
- 2GB PC2-6400 OCZ Memory
- 80GB SATA2 Boot Drive
- 160GB SATA2 Storage Drive (7200rpm 8MB Cache)
- Sony DVD-RW (G170A)
- Antec Sonata ATX Case

with a side order of my existing Creative Inspire 5.1 surround sound kit..
I’m running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition quite nicely with no problems… a bit disappointed with the experience index rating of 4.0 though.. might have to tweak it slightly. Vicky will be getting the hand-me-downs once the *correct* type of memory arrives (I made a slight misjudgment. Won’t happen again. Promise).
All unused old parts are now on ebay (click here to have a look)

And as a double-whammy of gadgetry delight, it’s mobile phone contract renewal time again. I’ve gone for the Orange SPV M700, which is an HTC P3600 in disguise. Yes, it’s the sexy white Pocket PC thing I’ve been carrying around with me for the last few months on loan from work, and I liked it so much I got one of my own. There’s nothing quite like synchronising it with your own PC to make you feel warm and cosy. Did I type that out loud? If anyone can find me a decent car cradle I’d be most grateful. I’m after one that I can just drop my m700 straight in to when I get in the car… the cradle must supply power directly without me having to fiddle about attaching cables… and should be powered from the normal cigarette lighter socket. Also, it’ll need to allow me to screw mount it to a bracket, but I can probably work that bit out if I can only find a powered cradle.

On a different note, holiday photos are on their way. I’ve got a few off our camera and am waiting for photos from the collective to arrive….

On an even differenterer note, I tried radishes for the first time today. They tasted like nothing and were crunchy. We’ve got bl**dy loads of them in the back garden, I’ll have to give them away to unsuspecting passers-by methinks.

We got home in one piece only to be welcomed by the mostly decayed carcass of our goldfish of 3 years. She must have died pretty early on in our holiday to be so unrecognisable as an actual fish. Oh well.. garden is a jungle again and we have the world’s biggest radishes.

Happy Birthday Little Sproggle

It’s Poppy’s first birthday today. After opening her presents we took her for a trip around a brewery where she sampled an Arran Blonde (she licked a dipped finger before you start phoning social services). Her first birthday meal ended with Grancher’s strawberry blancmange and chocolate caterpillar cake.

Tomorrow we make the journey home. I’ll try and put some photos in the album tomorrow evening if I get chance.

Holy Island, Batman…

This morning we took a small ferry from Lamlash to Holy Island. The island is owned by Tibetan Buddhists but they welcome visitors. Dad and I walked around the West side of the island before ascending to the summit (314 metres.. Just over 1000 feet so controversially qualifies as a mountain). The views from the top were amazing and the sun was hot- I’m a bit pink now. On our walk we only met one other person so it goes on record as a pretty remote and quiet mountain. The ferry journey back included a worried captain making a slight detour to circle a deflated balloon… just in case it turned out to be a stranded mammal or treasure chest or something. Today ended with a traditional Scottish offering of sweet & sour chicken balls plus crispy milk (?!?) for puds.
